The work begins

What happens when a writer is assigned a book? Your chance to find out.

Foks. It happens. After many months of lobbying, an editor says yes to your idea. It may only be a short piece. But they said yes.

Now what?

The idea was good when you pitched it. It had passion and promise. Now you have to deliver...

Research. Capture the vital information. Design. Interview. Summarize. Write. Rewrite.

Where is the passion you had when you started. Now that you are going to be paid for your article/story, where is the fire?

I can relate. I have two books on the burner. One for TwoMorrows, another for an unnamed publisher. One is long research. The other is fun. I get to talk to a comic book legend about Stan Lee, Kirby, Ayers, and many other fine folks. The other, most are dead, but I get to read comic books.

Writing is hard work. Don't doubt that. Ask Stephen King.

Next week, more, more, more.
