Catherine Hardwicke's big screen adaptation of Twilight, starring Kristen Stewart and teen heart-throb Robert Pattinson, was filmed around Portland, Oregon.
Filmmakers of Twilight chose Oregon's Madison High School, Multnomah Falls, Oxbow Park, and town of Corbett to recreate the rainy, gloomy setting of Forks, Washington. Twilight, which is about a teenage romantic mismatch of vampire and mortal, raked in over $70 million in its opening weekend and represents the first #1 box office movie to be filmed in Oregon.
Twilight Scenes Filmed in Portland High School, Columbia Gorge Diner
Filmmakers spent several months in and around the Portland area earier in the year. The Viewpoint Inn on the historic Columbia River Gorge was used for several of the movie's diner scenes. Portland's Madison High School set the scene for several of Twilight's high school moments.
Those gorgeous, woodsy scenes of Twilight that saw the first intimate moments of the movie's two main characters, 17-year-old Bella Swan and 90-year-old vampire Edward Cullen, were partly recreated in one of Oregon's most popular tourist attactions-- Multnomah Falls. The lush, green forest surroundings of Oxbow Park and NW Portand also were used to match Twilight's rainy, overcast setting.
Nearly $20 million of Twilight's $37 million budget was used filming scenes in the Portland area. Filming also took place in several other Oregon towns, including Vernonia, St. Helens, and Carver. Stars of Twilight Enjoy Portland, Author Enjoys Harry Potter-level Success
According to several reports, the cast of the blockbuster vampire movie enjoyed staying around Portland while filming. Twilight stars Kristen Stewart (Into the Wild, Panic Room) as main character Bella Swan, and Robert Pattinson, who played Cedric Diggory in several Harry Potter film adaptations, as Bella's undead boyfriend Edward Cullen. Most other cast members are relative newcomers.
The movie is based on the first book in Stephenie Meyer's four-book teen vampire series. Twilight, first published in 2005, earned Meyer a 6-figure book deal and has gone on to rival J.K. Rowling's beloved Harry Potter franchise in both profits and fan fervor. The 4 books, Twilight, New Moon, Eclipse, and Breaking Dawn, have sold over 37 million copies worldwide.
Twilight Sequel 'New Moon' Gets Greenlight
Portland Twilight fans might soon get to see more of their favorite series being filmed. Twilight's sequel, New Moon, has just been approved for pre-production following Twilight's epic success at the box office.
Though it is the first Oregon-filmed movie to open as #1 at the box office, Twilight joins a fairly long list of other cult faves shot in Oregon. Other movies filmed in Oregon:

so i guess ill be up in oregon a lot in 2009. i seem to keep missing the
cast when they have tours and signings.....all i want is one good pic with
kellen luts (emmet cullen) and rob pattinson (eward cullen)...i already had
plans to take a trip to italy this summer, but maybe i might catch them
there as well seeing as how my trip was planned because i wanted to vist
the place i read about in the book...its strange...ive never been so into
something before...stephenie meyers rocks...im so glad she wrote the
saga...her new book is amazing too...i love the way she writes

of the movie and he is just a character stephenie meyer came up with the
idea of thwilght but she wanted to call it forks but he is very cute and I
hope to see them filming in oregon they filmed at my friends dad shop well

I was surprise that a lot of the school scene was filmed at Madison High
school. I went to that school 5 years ago. When i was watching the movie i
kept wondering if it was or not. And that Biology class scene looked
exactly like the biology class i took. and the table that they sat at was
the same one i sat in. I'm sure of it. i hope the next movie is going to be
filmed in the same locations. if so then i will make sure to walk down the
street to watch.

Al the rest of the Twilight sequels will NOT be filmed in either Oregon or
Washington State, but in Vancouver Canada ..just saw this on my local
Portland OR news, as both states don't give the film makers enough tax
breaks.

i was born in oregon and raised there my whole life and i am glad we got
the twilight movie flimed there i am a big fan of the books but the rumors
are they are not fliming new moon in oregon they are rumored to be in
canada, lets hope not oregon is a great place a rare state where u can go
to the beach or go to the mountains! Lets hope the keep the series in
oregon!

I live in the small town of St.Helens were they filmed part of the movie.
It was wonderfull. Our whole,town basically transformed. I was shopping in
a store downtown and I kid you not Robert Pattinson walked by me. It was
amazing.

i live on the oregon coast and i saw the light house from cannon beach on
there that was neat i hope they come back and film in oregon its a
beatuiful place for the settings. i love this movie and the guys in it are

The Cullen's house is a Nike CEO's house. The cast was told not to touch
anything, so they had everything moved out and replaced it with their own
stuff i.e. the old cross and artwork.

2 aunts r going on aroad trip to go see a lot of the locations that it was
filmes by the way we have been researching and new moon is being filmed in
vancouver,british columbia in canada because off all the visitors and they
needed a little more privacy then what they had due to teenage girls like
me planning on visiting during the filming by "accident"

OMG i have lived in Portland,Oregon my whole life and never saw any
celebrities... and i live litteraly 1 i repeat 1 block away from madison
high school! When i passed by madison (like everyday day) it looked totally
normal just a couple of cars parked in the lot and the cars looked like any
other car nothing fancy or spendy. and the whole time i thought the cars
were there for the skate park or the soccer game but boy was i wrong... the
cars were there to film my favorite movie to my favorite book series!!!I
had a 99.9% chance of meeting the hottest guys in hollywood and i BLEW IT!
I really hope they come back to portland so i can at least get a pic...
